Chapter Six

As Piper drove along the winding road leading to Noah’s home, she caught glimpses of the sunset’s pink and yellow sky through the tall spruce and pine trees. She reflected on the previous day’s visit with her infuriating brothers. Though their overly protective natures greatly annoyed her, she didn’t want to imagine what life would be like without them.

She and her siblings might not share all their secrets with each other, but they shared the important ones. Piper felt guilty about not telling them Noah was her mate. Sometimes it was hard to predict how the males would react. It was difficult to determine if sharing the information would earn her a round of congratulations or if they’d do something to make a mess of things.

Piper would have to tell them about Noah eventually. Within the first five minutes of their intrusive visit, she’d decided to see how her date went first before making a decision about the timeframe.

After hearing that someone at the truck stop had reported her kiss, Piper was glad she’d suggested her date with Noah be in a secluded location and away from any townsfolk who’d gladly spy for her siblings. All the Bradshaw males exuded charm, except maybe Ryder, who kept a caring heart hidden under his brooding facade.

Being a loving sister, Piper hoped that all three of them eventually found their mates. Maybe then they’d be too busy with their own lives and lose interest in hers. Rather than end up in an irritated state, she let her thoughts drift to Noah. It was an exceedingly easy transition, given how much she looked forward to seeing him again.

He’d sent her several texts since she’d agreed to their date. A couple of them were to check in and say hello. Another one to make sure she still wanted to go out with him. The last one he’d sent made her giggle because he’d added several emojis, including an animated bear. He’d also attached a map to his last message, which showed her how to find his place.

Piper had expected the address to be in his hometown of Hanover. She was surprised to learn Noah didn’t live far from town. Not all rural roads were marked with signs, so finding properties was sometimes difficult. The instructions he’d given her were easy to follow, and it hadn’t taken long to find the entrance to the lane leading to his property.

After parking her car in the gravel drive, she got out of the vehicle and took a moment to appreciate the one-story house and surrounding area. His place was breathtaking. The exterior had a rustic, log-cabin appearance with flat, slate-gray rocks bordering the front door and trimming all the windows.

Other than a short walkway leading to a porch, the landscape around the house was comprised of plants that grew in the area naturally, without the addition of flower beds or hedging.

When she reached the door, she stopped to adjust the strap of her purse and swiped her hands along the front of her dress, hoping that Noah wouldn’t be disappointed by her appearance.
